Blood bags are medical plastic containers used for collecting, storing, and processing blood and blood components. They are classified as medical devices and blood collection tools, and must meet sterility, non-toxicity, and anticoagulant performance standards. They contain a pre-filled preservation solution containing citrate, phosphate, and glucose, which prevents blood coagulation by chelating calcium ions. The dosage of the solution is precisely matched to the blood bag size, and the blood collection volume must be controlled between 350-450 milliliters (for a 400 ml bag) to avoid anticoagulant imbalance, which could lead to blood clots or hypocalcemia.
